BJP, JD-U reach agreement on seat-sharingAfter weeks of uncertainty, the Bharatiya Janata Party and the Janata Dal-United have finally reached an agreement on seat-sharing in Karnataka and Bihar. As part of the National Democratic Alliance, the JD-U will contest 25 seats in Bihar and ten in Karnataka while the BJP will field 29 candidates in Bihar and 18 in Karnataka. The pact between the two parties was reached last evening, Digvijay Singh, a member of the steering committee of the JD-U, told newsmen today. Singh said the JD-U will contest 95 assembly seats in Karnataka while 125 seats will be left to the BJP. As per the agreement, signed by Ram Vilas Paswan and George Fernandes on behalf of the JD-U and BJP vice-president Kailashpati Mishra, seats in Uttar Pradesh, Manipur, Rajasthan and Lakshadweep would also be shared between the two parties. Efforts would be made for seat adjustments in other states too. The JD-U would contest the poll on the arrow symbol, Singh said. UNI
