Around 60% polling in Karnataka

According to preliminary estimates, the second and final phase of polling in Karnataka on Monday recorded a voter turnout of around 60%, Election Commission officials said in Bangalore.
Polling held in 13 Lok Sabha and 104 assembly constituencies was by and large peaceful, police said.
Former prime minister and Janata Dal-Secular chief H D Deve Gowda (Hassan), former chief minister and a new Bharatiya Janata Party entrant S Bangarappa (Shimoga) and the Congress' Veerappa Moily (Mangalore) were prominent among those who were in the fray.
In the first phase, 15 Lok Sabha and 120 assembly constituencies went to polls on April 20, which saw a polling percentage of 62.70%.
