Angry Congress workers on Tuesday burnt the effigies of Bharatiya Janata Party leaders, including Sushma Swaraj, Govindacharya and Uma Bharti, for their protest against Congress chief Sonia Gandhi becoming the Prime Minister.

"Sushma Swaraj did not offer resignation when thousands of young soldiers were killed in Kargil war and at the time of terrorist attack on Parliament," newly elected party MP Surendra Goel said.

He said disappointed after their defeat in Lok Sabha election, the BJP leaders were raising 'unnecessary issues'.

As news of Congress chief Sonia Gandhi being reluctant to take over as prime minister started trickling in the state capital, hundreds of party workers assembled at Congress headquarters this evening and raised slogans against BJP.

Over 500 Congress activists gathered at Gandhi Bhavan, party's headquarters and urged Sonia Gandhi to re-think on her reported decision.

The workers burnt the effigies of BJP leader Sushma Swaraj for her reported remarks against Gandhi.

Lok Janshakti Party workers burnt an effigy of BJP leader Sushma Swaraj, protesting her opposition to Congress chief Sonia Gandhi becoming the Prime Minister.

Led by newly elected MPs of LJP, Ramchandra Paswan and Suraj Bhan Singh, the party workers demonstrated here against Swaraj's decision to resign from Rajya Sabha if Gandhi became prime minister.

Rallying behind Gandhi, the two LJP leaders said the people had given a mandate in favour of her leadership and rejected Atal Bihari Vajpayee and the NDA.

They appealed to BJP leaders to desist from their  'fascist tendency' and honour the people's verdict.
