Undertrials go on the rampage

Three persons who were accused of involvement in cassette king Gulshan Kumar's murder and who are currently under trial in Kolhapur's Kalamba Jail, went on the rampage at the Chhatrapati Pramila Raje civil hospital, damaging tubelights and pipes, on Thursday night.

The Laxmipuri police said the three accused -- Salim Muzaffar (25), Pratapsinh Sukin (20) and Adeel Khan (20) -- who are reportedly involved in the Gulshan Kumar murder case, were booked under the Terrorist and Disruptive Activities (prevention) Act and lodged in Kalamba jail in Kolhapur.

They were brought to the civil hospital for treatment and were being kept in the prisoners's room there. However, they asked for their release on the grounds of poor treatment, but doctors and medical officers on duty refused their demand, the police said.

Upon this, they created terror in the prisoners ward by damaging tubelights and made unsuccessful attempts to beat up the doctors and other staffers on duty. However, timely intervention by them averted further crisis, the police said.
