Thakre rules out breaking ties with SenaBharatiya Janata Party president Kushabhau Thakre today ruled out breaking the party's alliance with the Shiv Sena, even while condemning the attack on the office of the Board of Control for Cricket in India in Bombay. Addressing a press conference, he said there was no question of severing the ties with the Sena as both were bound to follow the national agenda evolved by the 18-party coalition (at the Centre). At the same time, the BJP did not agree with any party resorting to acts such as the one that occurred at Bombay that would affect good neighbourly relations. Violence had no place in a democracy, he added. "Whoever resorted to vandalism in this case, they deserve condemnation. We should allow sports and other games with neighbours for good people-to-people relations." "It was good the Sena disowned the attacks by its activists," he added. From the beginning, he said, the BJP had been opposed to the Sena's activities like the 'sons of the soil' campaign. This did not mean the alliance should break up, he added. UNI
