High court comes to Bangarappa's aidThe Karnataka high court on Tuesday quashed a Central Bureau of Investigation court order that directed framing charges against former chief minister S Bangarappa for acquiring assets disproportionate to his known sources of income. On Bangarappa's challenging the legality of the order, Justice B K Sangalad held that there was no ground to ask the petitioner to stand trial. The CBI, in pursuance of a public interest petition and a series of orders from a division bench, had filed a chargesheet before the special judge alleging that Bangarappa had acquired vast assets between September 1988 and October 1997 when he was an MLA, minister and chief minister.
