Gopal's aide in Madras with message

E-Mail this report to a friend

N Sathiya Moorthy in Madras

An aide of government emissary and Nakkeeran editor R R Gopal, negotiating with forest brigand Veerappan, for the release of Kannada matinee idol Rajkumar, is said to be in Madras, with a message for Tamil Nadu and Karnataka.

"This time, there doesn't seem to be any cassettes or at least the aide doesn't seem to be carrying them with him," said a source.

The aide is believed to have conveyed the message to the Tamil Nadu government authorities, but details are not available.

Indications are that the two governments are in consultation with each other on follow-up action.

The source conceded that progress in negotiations undertaken by Gopal this time had been slow and painstaking. "But then it was expected, unlike media hype that all will be hunky-dory once Gopal met Veerappan and his pan-Tamil militant handlers the second time."
