Chelsea, grandmom join in a royal Holi

E-Mail this report to a friend

While President Bill Clinton kept busy today doing business in Bangladesh, daughter Chelsea Clinton and mother-in-law Dorothy Rodham played Holi with the family of Maharaja Gajsingh of Jodhpur -- cementing Indo-American social bonds in a new colour.

The American ladies arrived by plane at 1115 IST and were received by Maharaja Gajsingh, his wife Hemlata, son Shivraj Singh and daughter Shivranjani, according to a palace official.

With them were External Affairs Minister Jaswant Singh, US Ambassador to India Richard Celeste and Indian Ambassador in Washington Naresh Chandra, besides a 12-member American delegation and a 14-member Indian delegation.

According to sources, the two ladies later joined in the Holi celebrations of the former king's family at the Umaid Bhavan palace. Chelsea Clinton and Rodham are said to have enjoyed the colourful festival.

The guests later saw the ghoomar dance in the central domed hall of the palace and had lunch at the royal apartment, the king's residence.

They then visited the nearby Mehrangarh Palace museum and flew back to New Delhi at 1600 IST.
