INSAT-2B recovered after earth lock loss

"All payloads on board the satellite have been switched on and the services restored," an ISRO spokesman informed.

He said the health of the satellite, which was recovered around 1830 hours (IST), was being closely monitored.

INSAT-2B, which was carrying some eight transponders in C-band and S-band and meteorology payload, had completed its designed life of seven years in July 2000 but the satellite was still being used.

Earlier, ISRO sources had said the recovery attempts had been difficult due to the depleted condition of the oxidiser on board the spacecraft which was required for orbit and attitude (orientation) controls. PTI
