10 BSF men, chopper missing in Kutch

Our Correspondent in Ahmedabad

There is still no trace of 10 Border Security Force officials and a helicopter in which they were patrolling the border in Kutch, after it was reported missing on Sunday night.

According to a BSF spokesperson, the officers had gone for patrolling in the Nalia sector in Kutch district but had not returned till Monday morning.

A massive search operation is on and the Gujarat police have also been informed about the incident.

Meanwhile, Defence Minister George Fernandes said on Sunday that the Indian Army had been kept in a state of readiness to meet any kind of situation on the Kutch border. "There are activities across the border and some additional Pakistani army build-up on border had been noticed," he had said.

Kutch, incidentally, has its fair share of incidents involving India and Pakistan. Only last year, India had shot down a Pakistani plane in the area after it was found intruding into Indian airspace. Pakistan, which claimed that its aircraft was carrying out routine operations, took the matter to the International Court of Justice, which ultimately ruled in India's favour.
