Attack on Gowda's wife to be probed

Home Minister Mallikarjun Kharge told reporters that the government had also referred the incident to the Corps of Detectives for investigation.

''The (proposed) inquiry will be held by a sitting high court judge,'' he pointed out.

Lokesh, a nephew of Gowda, has been arrested following the attack. Gowda's wife, Chennamma, along with her daughter-in-law Bhavani were attacked, allegedly by Lokesh.

A family feud is believed to be the reason behind the assault that took place outside a temple in Haradanahalli. Chennamma is undergoing treatment in the intensive care unit of Mallya hospital.

Kharge said the state cabinet would finalise the terms of reference of the inquiry.

The CoD will look into various aspects of the incident, including criminal conspiracy.

''The government has taken the incident seriously. We decided to refer it to the CoD immediately so that there is no room for speculation and to prevent the local police from being subjected to pressure from any quarter,'' the minister observed.

Chennamma is out of danger, doctors attending on her said.

''There is nothing to worry about. All her vital parameters are normal,'' doctors at the hospital said.

The doctors said they would begin the first stage of plastic surgery on her on Friday and she would have to stay in the hospital ''for quite a long time''.

Chenamma had received 30 per cent burns, they said.

Bhavani, wife of former minister H D Revanna, who received minor burns, is also undergoing treatment at the hospital.
