Former TN governor given
warm send off

Former Tamil Nadu governor Justice (retd) M Fathima Beevi was given a warm send off at the Madras airport on Thursday.

Beevi had resigned on Sunday shortly after the Union Cabinet decided to dismiss her for having 'failed' to discharge the constitutional obligations in the wake of the arrest of former Tamil Nadu chief minister M Karunanidhi and two Union ministers on June 30.

Before her departure to Trivandrum in a special aircraft, the former governor, responding to a question, said she had already issued a press release regarding her recall and therefore, there was no need of further comment on the issue.

She had stated that a governor cannot, at any point of time, seek to justify his or her acts being done in accordance with the Constitution and the law in the normal course of discharge of duties.

She thanked the people of Tamil Nadu for their cooperation.

Among those who saw her off included Chief Minister Jayalalithaa, her cabinet colleagues and state Chief Secretary P Shankar.
