India-China boundary talks begin

India and China on Tuesday began the 13th round of the Joint Working Group aimed at resolving the boundary issue between the two countries.

The meeting is being held in the Chinese capital, Beijing.

The Indian side is led by Foreign Secretary Chokila Iyer, while Vice Foreign Minister of China, Wang Yi is leading the Chinese side for the one-day talks.

Official sources said, both sides will review the progress made during the eighth and ninth meetings of the India-China Expert Group, which had discussed issues relating to the Line of Actual Control.

"Both sides will have an in-depth exchange of views on bilateral relations as well as international and regional issues of common interest," a source said.

A Chinese foreign ministry official hoped the boundary talks will result in 'frank and friendly' exchange of views and promote mutual trust between the two countries.

This is Iyer's first-ever visit to China. She is scheduled to call on the Chinese Foreign Minister Tang Jiaxuan.
