Army appeals for peace in Manipur

The army on Saturday appealed to the people of Manipur to maintain peace and use non-violent means to lodge their protest over the extension of the ceasefire between the Centre and National Socialist Council of Nagaland (I-M) to the state.

General Officer Commanding Major General Iqbal Singh also asked militant groups to desist from any activity that may jeopardise civilian lives.

Singh said the people of Manipur must work together to achieve the long-term interests of the state.
