Salman Khan receives threats from the underworld

Filmstar Salman Khan on Monday informed the Mumbai police that he had received threats from the underworld and sought fresh arms licence from them.

Khan, dressed in black trousers and T-shirt, arrived at the police commissionerate at Crawford market and spent over an hour with the Police Commissioner M N Singh and other top officials.

One of the staff members of the actor had received a call from an underworld don who asked Salman to get in touch with him soon, Singh said.

However, he refused to disclose the identity of the underworld don.

"Since Salman's firearms were confiscated by the Rajasthan police following the high court directive in the buck poaching case, he requested us to issue him a fresh licence," Singh added.

Salman also informed the police chief that he had urged the high court to return his firearms and the court had subsequently issued a directive on the issue. However, the actor claimed that he was yet to receive the firearms.

"Salman requested us to write to the court to expedite the matter. However, since the matter was with the court, we have informed him that it was not possible for us to intervene in this regard," Singh said.

The anti-extortion cell of city police was examining the 'threat perception' to Salman, he said.

"We will decide on the level of police protection after a thorough evaluation of the threat perception," Singh added.
