China with India in the fight against terrorism: Zhu

Visiting Chinese Premier Zhu Rongji on Tuesday night said India and China have expressed common resolve to fight terrorism and to increase technical and economic cooperation.

Zhu, during his meeting with Maharashtra Governor Dr P C Alexander, expressed the hope that his Mumbai visit would increase contacts between both the countries, especially in the sectors of business and trade, a Raj Bhavan communiqué said.

The visiting dignitary, who is addressing captains of industries on Wednesday, remarked such contacts at the business level would boost cooperation between the two countries.

Zhu said both Shanghai and Mumbai are commercial centres of China and India respectively.

He also recalled the dinner hosted for the then visiting Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi in 1988 at Shanghai in his capacity as the mayor of that city.

Zhu said that though he had a brief talk with Gandhi, he was impressed by the modesty and knowledge of the Indian prime minister.

Extending a warm welcome to the Chinese premier, Alexander hoped that the visit would boost trade and economic cooperation between India and China.

Describing both countries as the fastest growing economies in Asia, Alexander said that if India and China strengthen their economic cooperation, they would benefit immensely.
