Congress MLA withdraws support to Maharashtra government

Congress legislator Padmakar Walvi said on Thursday that he had withdrawn support the Democratic Front government in Maharashtra.

Shiv Sena leader Narayan Rane produced Walvi, the first Congress legislator to defect, before the media in Mumbai.

On the occasion, Bharatiya Janata Party leader Gopinath Munde presented 17 MLAs, including four of the Nationalist Congress Party, and claimed that they had switched loyalties.

He said he had also received letters from two Congress and 11 NCP MLAs pledging support to the BJP-Shiv Sena combine.

However, he said he would not produce the letters right away as the said legislators would come under pressure from their respective parties.

Munde also claimed that six NCP MLAs and two ministers, among those who had been whisked away to Indore, were in touch with the saffron combine.

Chief Minister Vilas Deshmukh and Congress leader Vayalar Ravi had on Wednesday claimed that their flock was intact.
