Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Jayalalitha on Wednesday said no useful purpose would be served by holding talks with her Karnataka counterpart S M Krishna on the release of Cauvery waters to the state.
"Karnataka has been providing wrong information and excuses for not releasing the quantum allotted to Tamil Nadu under the interim award of the Cauvery water tribunal," she told newspersons after a meeting of the state cabinet in Chennai.
Earlier talks had not yielded any rewards, she pointed out.
She confirmed that the state is yet to move the Supreme Court in this regard.
Jayalalithaa denied that Prime Minister Ata l Bihari Vajpayee had contacted her or the state government to resolve the dispute.
Jayalalithaa dismissed criticism of her decision to boycott the Cauvery Water Authority chaired by the prime minister.
Most political parties have said that this decision and the one to move the courts could delay the process of securing the waters.
A delay in the court's verdict would not serve the immediate irrigation needs of the farmers in the delta region of Thajavur district, they have argued.
