Stop forcible conversions: Sudarshan tells Christians

Close on the heels of asking Muslims to earn the goodwill of Hindus for their safety, the RSS on Friday said Christians should stop conversion through 'coercion' and taking money from abroad.

Emerging from three hours of talks with Christian leaders in Bangalore, RSS chief K S Sudarshan told reporters that his organisation was not against Christians propagating their faith, but only against conversion by 'coercion'.

"Why do you bring money from abroad? We should be nationalists. Indian churches should be run by Indians. Unfortunately, there is a section guided by foreign missionaries. This results in conflict," he said.

Ken Ganakan, moderator of the dialogue, said Christians were concerned about the resolution passed at the RSS's Bangalore meet on Sunday, which said 'Let the minorities understand that their real safety lies in the goodwill of the majority'.

"There is a keenness to listen to each other," Ganakan said after the talks.

"However, we cannot all problems in three hours. We will continue the dialogue," he added.
