Cauvery row: Rajakumar leads cine artists' protest rally

Kannada matinee idol Rajakumar lead a protest march on Wednesday in Bangalore to support the farmers protesting the Centre's decision on the release of Cauvery waters to Tamil Nadu.

The rally comprised of cine artists, technicians, producers and directors,

The protest started from Mysore bank circle and ended at the Mahatma Gandhi statue, after which they started a daylong dharna (protest) near the statue. The Karnataka film chamber had extended its supported towards the protest march.

Barring a few incidents of stone throwing, which damaged three buses belonging to the Bangalore Motor Transport Corporation, and some private vehicles, the rally was peaceful.

Rajakumar, leading a delegation, submitted a memorandum to Governor T N Chaturvedi and Chief Minister S M Krishna, asking the government to protect the interest of the farmers of Karnataka.

Speaking to reporters he said, 'I am supporting the farmers, as I am myself a farmer's son. Let us work towards it [Cauvery issue] instead of simply talking."

It may be recalled that the farmers in Mandya district had burnt effigies of Rajakumar to protest against film industry's silence regarding the Cauvery issue.
