Prohibitory orders were clamped in Anepalya, Bangalore, following a communal clash on Tuesday night.

Twelve people, including six policemen, were injured in the violence.

Members of a community were taking out a religious procession on Anepalya main road when some people from another community complained that the drumbeats were disturbing their prayers, police sources said.

Trading of verbal abuses over the issue soon led to stone throwing, they said.

A power cut in the area worsened the situation, the source said.

Five platoons of the City Armed Reserve police were rushed to the spot. "There was no firing," said Commissioner M D Singh.

The injured were treated at the Mallya Hospital, St John's Hospital and the National Institute of Mental Health and Neuro Sciences.

Chief Minister S M Krishna visited the Mallya Hospital and spoke to some of the injured.

Former Union minister C K Jaffer Sharief visited Anepalya, which falls within Ashoknagar police limits, and advised the public to remain peaceful.
