June 26, 2003 17:12 IST

Union Urban Development Minister Ananth Kumar was on Thursday appointed president of the Bharatiya Janata Party's Karnataka unit.

Senior leader Yediyurappa has been appointed chairman of the BJP's campaign committee in the state.

Kumar replaces Basavraj Patil Sedam, who offered to resign six months back as part of a revamp.

It is not clear whether Kumar would continue in the Union Cabinet or resign to take up party work.

Assembly elections are due in Karnataka along with the Lok Sabha polls in October next year.
