Taking a cue from the Best Bakery trial, the victim of a gangrape during the post-Godhra riots, Bilkis Yakoob Rasool, has moved the Supreme Court seeking transfer of the trial of her case outside Gujarat.

Bilkis, who had first approached the Supreme Court seeking a CBI probe into her rape by a mob during the riots, said the situation the State was not conducive for a trial in her case and also cited a CBI report in support of her contention.

The CBI report had castigated the local police for a shoddy job and cited that the killings that took place alongside the gangrape of Bilkis occurred in a planned manner. It had arrested the Investigating Officer in the case.

The victim complained that the situation in the State was still hostile and she did not expect a fair trial in the case and requested the apex Court to transfer the case to any of the neighbouring States.

The Supreme Court had transferred the trial of the Best Bakery case to Maharashtra on the ground that a fair trial would not be possible in Gujarat.
