Coming soon, a law against riots

May 27, 2004 19:26 IST

The Congress-led United Progressive Alliance government will enact a law to deal with communal violence.

The Common Minimum Programme of the UPA, released in New Delhi on Thursday, also said that the government "will encourage each state to adopt that law to generate faith and confidence in minority communities".

On Ayodhya, the UPA will await the verdict of the courts, while encouraging negotiations between parties to the dispute for an amicable settlement, the CMP said.
