Everything is set for the commencement of trial in Karnataka against Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Jayalalithaa in the Rs 66-crore disproportionate assets case.

Karnataka on Saturday appointed a public prosecutor and completed translation of documents running into 17,000 pages from Tamil to English to facilitate the commencement of the trial.

The Karnataka high court on Friday appointed B V Acharya, a senior advocate, as the public prosecutor for the case, Karnataka Minister for Law and Parliamentary Affairs H K Patil said.

Patil said A S Pacchhapure, who has been appointed the judge to try the case, will soon announce a date for commencing the trial.

The Supreme Court had transferred the case from Tamil Nadu. It had directed Karnataka to set up a special court. The state had then secured the documents pertaining to the case from Tamil Nadu on September 10, 2004.

Judge Pacchhapure assumed charge of the special court on September 15.

The Supreme Court had dismissed Jayalalithaa's plea seeking transfer of the case from Karnataka to other state. She said she might not get justice in Karnataka, as there was a running feud between the two states over the issue of Cauvery river water sharing.
