PM offers relief to Satara stampede victims

Prime Minister Manmohan Singh [Images] announced ex-gratia payment of Rs 50,000 to the next of the kin of the dead in the Satara temple stampede.

The compensation would be given from the Prime Minister's National Relief Fund, official sources said.

At least 350 people were killed and over 200 injured in a stampede at a religious fair in Wai in Satara in western Maharashtra on Tuesday afternoon.
