Three bogies of the the Kanyakumari Express, which left from Bangalore on Sunday night, derailed between Varadhapura and Kamasamudram in Kolar district of Karnataka.
The South Western Railway said the bogies next to the engine had jumped the track.
Passengers, however, are safe. Due to the derailment, several trains were cancelled or diverted .
Track restoration work has been delayed because of the rains.
