As many as 742 people, including two involved in the murder of a constable, have been arrested in connection with the violence following the death of matinee idol Rajkumar, police said on Wednesday.
This is in addition to the preventive arrests made on April 12 when Rajkumar died and his funeral the next day and on April 18, a day before a public function was held to pay homage to the actor, City Police Commissioner Ajay Kumar Singh told reporters.
Out of the arrested which included 20 with previous criminal record, 306 people were still in judicial custody, he said.
The police said 103 of the arrested were identified through photographs and video footage of the violence on the day of the thespian's death and on the day of the funeral on April 13.
Singh said he has submitted an interim report on the violence to state Director General of Police B S Sial, but declined to share details.
Asked if the violence was organised by any group, he said, "Not only an emotional outburst, but many other things were involved." He, however, refused to elaborate.
Seven persons were killed in police firing and a police constable was lynched in the violence.
