A landslide near the famous Jwalamukhi temple in Kangra district of Himachal Pradesh on Sunday trapped over eight people.

The debris from the mountain came crashing and fell on the roadside shops on way to Jwalamukhi temple, about 40 km from in Dharamsala, trapping shopkeepers and devotees, Additional District Commissioner Lakhanpal told PTI.

Over two dozen people have been rescued while search was on for eight others trapped in the debris of mountain, he said.

As the news of the accident spread, jawans of Sahashtra Suraksha Bal and district officials rushed to the spot to carry out the search and rescue operations.

The rescue operation has been hampered due to heavy rain still continuing in the area.
