Pro-independence Jammu and Kashmir [Images] Liberation Front chairman Mohammad Yasin Malik continued his two-day fast on Monday so as to coincide it with the World Human Rights Day.

The fast which began on Sunday was to focus attention of the international community towards alleged human rights violation in Kashmir, according to the JKLF chairman.

Scores of JKLF activists tried to march to the headquarters of the United Nations Military Observers' Group in Srinagar [Images] to hand over a memorandum. The march was, however, stopped and not allowed to proceed.

Several JKLF activists were detained by the police who used batons to disperse them.

Malik and his supporters ended their two-day fast at the party headquarters in Maisuma locality of Srinagar on Monday evening.

Meanwhile, the moderate group of the All Parties Hurriyat Conference headed by Mirwaiz Omar Farooq said, "Unless the basic problem of Kashmir is resolved in line with the aspirations of the people here, the rights situation will never fully improve."

Mirwaiz also led a silent march from the Rajbagh headquarters of the APHC to the Sher-e-Kashmir municipal park in Srinagar.
