Unable to bear the death of her husband Amar Singh, a head constable with Border Security Force who was shot dead allegedly by his own colleagues in January 2004 when he was posted in Tripura, Chandra Devi lost her mental balance when her husband's body came to native Dharampur village in Himachal Pradesh.

In February 2006, Chandra Devi suddenly disappeared and despite all efforts by her two children and other relatives she could not be traced.

Her son Arun (16) lodged a missing report with Dharampur police station in April 2006. The police made efforts, but could not trace her, Superintendent of police, Mandi, Chandra Sekhar told PTI.

"In 2006 I got a call from BSF, Jalandhar, about a woman resembling Chandra Devi being lodged in a jail in Pakistan," the SP said.

"A BSF DIG told me that the woman had strayed into Pakistan and is lodged in a jail there and asked the Mandi police to verify the photograph of the woman" he said.

Her kins went to Jalandhar and confirmed it was the photograph of Chandra Devi, the SP said adding, "The BSF DIG told me that they were in touch with the Pakistan Rangers for the return of the woman."

The BSF DIG said the matter would be discussed during talk with the Pakistan Rangers on February 14, The Mandi SP said.

Meanwhile Chandra Devi's two children -- Arjun and Asha (11) are facing money problems as after the disappearance of Chandra Devi, they could not draw pension money registered in her name.

The children are staying with their relatives, official sources said. While Arjun is a student of standard XI in Senior Seconary School, Asha is studying in standard VII in the same school.

The children are pinning their hopes on Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh and minister of State for External Affairs Anand Sharma, who hails from the state, for help to bring back their mother from Pakistan jail, the sources added.
