China on Monday hailed President Hu Jintao's participation at the G-8 Summit and his bilateral meetings with world leaders, including Prime Minister Manmohan Singh [Images], agreeing to enhance political dialogue and coordination on international affairs such as climate change.

Stating this, Chinese Foreign Minister Yang Jiechie added that Hu held bilateral meetings with 12 foreign leaders at the G-8 summit in Germany [Images], which boosted cooperation between nations concerned about international affairs.

Hu's attendance at the Outreach session of the G-8 summit and his state visit to Sweden have achieved the intended goals. It was pragmatic, effective and fruitful in promoting dialogue and deepening cooperation, Yang said.

"It is a successful diplomatic event that has expanded consensus, promoted mutual understanding, and advanced a win-win outcome for all parties concerned," he said.

Hu, also general secretary of the ruling Communist Party of China, had in-depth discussions with 12 foreign leaders on a broad range of issues. They agreed to enhance political dialogue, strengthen mutually beneficial economic cooperation, cultural exchanges and coordination on international affairs, Yang told the official Chinese media.

Earlier Chinese media reports said that Hu and Dr Singh had pledged to enhance cooperation in tackling climate change that could cause swelling sea levels.

Hu and Dr Singh also discussed issues, including border talks.

China and India, the world's two most populous nations, were both influenced by the climate change while endeavouring to achieve sustained growth, Hu pointed out.
