An impostor, claiming to be the secretary to Congress president Sonia Gandhi [Images], was arrested in Bangalore on Friday.

Gunasekaran , 54, bearing resemblance to Sonia's secretary, was arrested at Sadashivanagar after he claimed that he could secure funding for the de-addiction centre to be set up at Bangalore by a doctor, where a Congress leader was also present, police said.

The incident came to light when one doctor Appaji, a surgeon, was introduced to the accused through a common acquaintance. The man promised the doctor that he could help him secure some funds for the health centre, the police said.

Appaji therefore asked the accused to fly down to Bangalore. He later called the accused for breakfast at his friend's house. Incidentally, Appaji had also asked Congress leader D K Shivakumar to be present at the meeting.

However, Shivakumar soon realised that Gunasekaran was an impostor, though he bore a resemblance to Sonia Gandhi's secretary. He also rang up the real secretary at Delhi and confirmed his presence there.

Following this, the police were informed and the man was arrested. "We are investigating whether the accused has duped any other person," the police officer said.
