The Karnataka police, in a joint operation with their counterparts from Manipur, arrested six suspected militants of the People's United Liberation Front at Mysore on Sunday.

According to police sources, the six suspected militants had managed to sneak out of Manipur and had sought refuge in Karnataka.

The six militants were later produced before the Magistrate, who remanded them to police custody for six days. While the Manipur police will interrogate them about their activities in the North Eastern state, the Karnataka police will try to find out more about their contact person in the state.

The Karnataka police are not yet sure if the PULF militants were planning an attack in the state or were merely using it as a hideout. According to the police, these men had recently made inquiries about tourist spots in the vicinity of Mysore. However, the police are not sure about their motive. 

An Intelligence Bureau dossier on PULF militants states that they seek shelter in Mysore, Bangalore or Mumbai, as they consider these places safe. In fact, the IB had issued a warning to the Karnataka police a couple of months ago, stating that PULF militants may be hiding in the state.
