All but one of the 146 people who were killed in the stampede at Naina Devi temple in Himachal Pradesh [Images] were identified and their bodies handed over to relatives on Monday.
The lone unclaimed body at the civil hospital in Anandpur Sahib today is that of a 45-year-old man, said Ropar police chief R N Hoke.
He said the remaining bodies have been taken back to their native places in Punjab, Haryana and Himachal Pradesh by their kins. The highest number of dead -- 60 -- are from Patiala district of Punjab, officials said. While 15 pilgrims from Haryana lost their lives, the number of dead from Himachal Pradesh was ten.
Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal, who visited the injured in the hospital, assured the people that Punjab government, in coordination with the Himachal Pradesh administration, will evolve a system to ensure 'maximum safety' for pilgrims visiting the shrine in near future.
He also said the existing infrastructure at the Naina Devi shrine would be upgraded for better comfort of pilgrims. Meanwhile, all the 47 injured admitted to the civil hospital here have been discharged after the medical treatment, officials said.
