Karnataka Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa on Wednesday visited the family of Siddalingappa Choori, who was killed in police firing at Haveri on Tuesday.

Yeddyurappa handed over a cheque of Rs two lakh to the farmer's family. The Chief Minister said that he was shocked and deeply hurt by the incident.

Accompanied by Public Works Minister C M Udasi and Medium and Major Irrigation Minister Basavaraja Bommai, the CM assured the family all help and offered a job to a member of the family.

Meanwhile, Choori's last rites were performed today.

The situation in the town was tense but under control, police said.

One person was killed and four injured in police firing on farmers at Haveri town on Tuesday. The incident took place when hundreds of farmers, who had gathered before the Taluk Agricultural Produce Marketing Cooperative Society, turned violent after officials abruptly suspended sale of fertilizers, displaying a 'no stock' board.
