At least seven persons were injured when a suicide bomber blew himself up on Tuesday outside a stadium in Peshawar, the capital of Pakistan's restive North West Frontier Province.
The bomber tried to enter a stadium where the concluding ceremony of the inter-provincial games was being held but was stopped by security personnel deployed at the gate.
The bomber then detonated his explosives.
Officials said at least 7 persons were injured, two of them seriously. The blast also damaged several vehicles parked outside the stadium.
The explosion occurred minutes after the event in the stadium had ended.
NWFP Governor Owais Ahmed Ghani and senior provincial ministers, who attended the event, had left the venue shortly before the attack. Reports suggest that the bomber may have been trying to target VIPs in the stadium.
Blood and body parts lay scattered at the site of the explosion, which caused panic among passer-bys. Ambulances rushed to the stadium and ferried the injured to nearby hospitals.
No group has claimed responsibility for the attacks.
However, a local Taliban [Images] commander had on Monday warned that militants would carry out attacks in Peshawar if the security forces did not halt operations against them in the adjoining Khyber tribal region.
