The situation in Mangalore, which witnessed widespread violence following attack on places of worship in Dakshina Kannada and Udupi districts, is tense but under control even as a bandh call given by Srirama Sena to protest the attack on its cadre evoked good response.

Normal life in the port city was disrupted as vehicles remained off the roads while schools and colleges were closed.

Tight security arrangements have been made in the entire city, which witnessed attacks on police personnel for 'failure to prevent attacks on religious places'.

Meanwhile, district police said over 150 people were rounded-up after the violent incidents.

In a related incident, four people belonging to pro-Hindu organisations were injured when their vehicles were attacked by a mob at Kalladka and Attavar on the outskirts of the Mangalore City on Monday night. Four buses and a car were pelted with stones.

As a precautionary measure, the district administration declared a holiday for all educational institutions in Mangalore city and taluk while extending prohibitory orders under Sec 144 Criminal Procedure Code for two more days.

Home Minister V S Acharya, camping in the city since Monday, informed UNI on Tuesday that the situation had been brought under control and that no fresh untoward incidents had been reported.

Meanwhile, the police force from Udupi has been asked to be ready for deployment in the city in case of any emergency. 

"The local police have efficiently managed the situation so far," he added.
