With allegations being made against various Hindu outfits in the wake of the Malegaon blast, RSS new chief Mohan Bhagwat today said his organisation was a "disciplined force and not a militant outfit".
"RSS workers maintain discipline like soldiers and that is why they are not a militant outfit," Bhagwat said, addressing hundreds of Sangh volunteers at Hamirpur in Himachal Pradesh [Images].
Bhagwat, who recently took charge of the RSS from K S Sudarshan, said the functioning of his organisation was not based on speeches and meetings, but strong work among people.
"The RSS volunteers go to shakhas daily over the world and propagate Hindu ideology and ways of life," Bhagwat, who is on his first visit to the hill state after becoming the Sarsanghchalak (chief), said.
With general elections round the corner, the RSS chief exhorted people to exercise their franchise keeping national interest in mind and not just with a view to form a government.
"We are in the habit of casting our votes for five years without taking into consideration the pros and cons of our rights and the future of the nation," he said and asked the voters to change this mindset for the good of the country.
