India crashes to 103 all out

Northern Districts held the upper hand on the opening day today of a four-day cricket match after bowling India out for 103 at McLean Park.

The New Zealand team was 121 for one at stumps. Captain Craig Spearman was unbeaten on 65 and Matthew Sinclair on 28.

India made a disastrous start in the match when it crumbled to 20 for five, including the loss of star batsman Sachin Tendulkar for five.

Saurav Ganguly and wicket-keeper Nayan Mongia brought some respectability to the score with a sixth-wicket partnership of 46, but once they were dismissed, the tourists folded quickly.

Ganguly top-scored with 37 in 138 minutes, with Mongia, who made 21, and Venkatesh Prasad (14) the only other players to reach double figures.

Andrew Penn led Northern Districts' bowling effort with 4-43 off 16 overs while fellow new-ball bowler David Blake claimed three wickets and Michael Mason two, including that of Tendulkar.
