India poised to win in Napier

India's cricketers showed some character for the first time on tour when they clawed their way into a strong position on the third day of their four-day match against Wellington at the Basin Reserve on Monday.

India should complete a morale-boosting win tomorrow when it resumes on 30 for one in their second innings, needing to reach 174 for victory.

India turned the game around after trailing Wellington by 49 runs on the first innings by rolling the home side for 124 in their second innings.

After losing their tour opener against Central Districts in Napier by seven wickets, India badly need a win with the first Test against New Zealand starting in Dunedin on Friday.

Saurav Ganguly led the comeback this morning when his 93 helped India improve from their overnight 219 for seven to 268 all out.

The indian bowling attack, minus medium-fast bowler Javagal Srinath because of a minor elbow injury, then strangled the Wellington batsmen.
