Third eye for third umpireLord's cricket ground, late last month, became the first to install specially dedicated, broadcast quality cameras specifically to assist third umpires in adjudicating on close run out decisions. Till now, the third umpire has been relying on television cameras as positioned for regular coverage, depdning on the replays to arrive at his decisions. With the installation of special cameras, in line with each crease, the element of doubt has been further narrowed down to the point of being non-existent. A joint project of the Marlyebourne Cricket Club and the TCCB, it is based on similar cameras used in South Africa. Lord's, however, became the first ground to actually use the technology at the highest level, when the cameras were turned on during the second Test against South Africa.
