Bedi forms association of former Test playersIn a move that could have far-reaching effects, former Indian captain Bishen Singh Bedi has announced the formation of an association of former Test cricketers.Flanked by former Test players Maninder Singh and Prakash Bhandari, Bedi made it clear that the association had not been formed to take a confrontationist course with the Board of Control for Cricket in India. "Our aim will be to rope in all major players and make an effort to give back to the game all that we have gained from it," he said. Bedi said Kapil Dev, Dilip Vengsarkar, Gundappa Vishwanath and Arun Lal, Test selector Madan Lal and Yashpal Sharma had consented to his forming the association. Prakash Bhandari, who played in three Tests for India in the fifties, will be the chairman of the association, the details of which have yet to be worked out. Bhandari told journalists that cricket is becoming more and more like an industry at the top level, but players who can't make it to the top have still to fend for themselves. Our aim is to make an effort to remove anomalies like these and also make our vast experience available to the Indian board to help them run and administer the game in a much more professional manner. A large number of first-class cricketers from the north zone, including Chetan Sharma, were present at the press conference.
