Mark Waugh under the microscopeR Mohan Babu in BangaloreAn Australian news agency has sought details of an one-day international held in 1992 at the Karnataka State Cricket Association as part of a thorough investigation into the Australian cricketers' involvement in the betting scandal that has rocked international cricket. A correspondent of the news agency collected the details of the match held on October ten, 1992 between the World XI and the Wills XI, in which Mark Waugh played for the former. The query comes close on the heels of an Australian Cricket Board inquiry which had castigated the ACB and had expressed the view that Waugh and Shane Warne, who had admitted to accepting money for giving details about the pitch and other match conditions, should have been suspended. In the rain curtailed match, Wills XI defeated the World XI in a low-scoring match. While the former posted 169 in 44 overs, the latter made it to 93 for five in 27 overs, Mark Waugh scoring just five after conceeding 23 in a five over spell with the ball. KSCA sources indicate that the Australian journalist was particularly interested in Waugh's performance. Earlier in the morning, a person identifying himself as APP sports editor Mark Coomber called the sports editoor of a leading Indian daily, seeking details of some games and indicating that they were probing the possible involvement of Waugh in match fixing.
