Putter lets Jeev downJoy ChakravarthyJeev Milkha Singh’s putter let him down on the final day of the Fiat & Fila Open, as he shot a level-par 72 round to finish tied for the 23rd place at the CircoloGolf, Turin, Italy, on Sunday. The Chandigarh-based Jeev negated his four birdies with four bogies in a round where his putting prevented him from gaining a top 10 finish. “I actually played much better than what I did during the third round. I found more fairways with my tee shot and reached 15 greens in regulations as against only 12 yesterday. But the difference was that I needed 27 putts to complete my third round, while today I needed 34,” said Jeev on phone from Turin. Jeev was lying 13th after a four-under 68 third round. The finish earned Jeev 10,050 euros (appx. $14,070 or Rs 6,12,000) and he retained his 21st position in the Vovlo European PGA Tour Order of Merit with aggregated earnings of 121,329 euros. The tournament, boasting of a total prize money of 1 million euros, was won by Scotland’s Dean Robertson who fired a four-under final round to aggregate 17-under 271 for the tournament. The 27-year-old Scot edged out overnight leader Ireland’s Padraig Harrington by one stroke after Harrington bogied two of his final three holes. Moving up with good Sunday rounds were Spain’s reigning Masters champion Jose Maria Olazabal and the legendary Seve Ballesteros. Olazabal shot six-under 66 to total 12-under and finished tied for 13th spot, while Ballesteros fired a five-under to finish 11-under and in sole possession of the 17th place. Sliding down were twice US Open champion Lee Janzen, who finished tied for the 66th place at one-under, and Germany’s Bernhard Langer, who was six-under for a share of the 38th place.
