Perry bags career-best haul

West Indies off-spinner Nehemiah Perry took a career-best five for 84 as Bangladesh scored a respectable 229 on the first day of a three-day match today.

Perry ran through the hosts' middle order, claiming the wickets of Khaled Mahmud (40), Naimur Rahman (8), Enamul Hoque (32), Shafiuddin Ahmed (1) and Manjurul Islam (0).

Earlier, fast bowler Reon King grabbed two for 19 as Bangladesh struggled to 40 for four.

Opener Mehrab Hossain, the lone Bangladeshi century-maker in one-day internationals, fell to King for a duck.

Javed Omar Balem (53) and Mahmud rescued Bangladesh with a fifth wicket stand of 75. Mahmud was dismissed when he lifted an easy catch to Adrian Griffith at long-on off Perry. His innings included five fours.

Khaled Mashud made the top score of 59 not out and added 87 in a seventh wicket partnership with Hoque.

The West Indies did not score in their fours overs before the close.
