Pakistan team to follow the 'star'

The Pakistan cricket team will go back to its famous 'star' logo when it begins its campaign in the three-nation Coca Cola Cup with a match against the West Indies in Sharjah tomorrow.

This was decided after the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) conducted a survey to know public opinion about the new logo, which depicted a batsman and a bowler in action, introduced last month on a trial basis.

''The public response to the new logo was not favourable so the PCB decided to go back to its original logo,'' assistant manager of the Pakistan team Sahebzada Ahmed Khan said.

Pakistan skipper Wasim Akram appeared relaxed and exuded confidence that the team would perform well in the Sharjah tournament.

''Though we just had three one-day international games in Toronto since the World Cup, we are looking forward to the challenges ahead,'' he said.

Wasim said: ''Sharjah has always been a special assignment for us but this time it is even more important as the tournament is a prelude to the tough Test series against Australia.''

He said the matches against both Sri Lanka and the West Indies are not going to be easy as they are the top teams in the world. ''But I am sure the boys will not take too much time to get back into form.''

Pakistan coach Wasim Raja said: ''We have been preparing well for the tournament and all the boys are fully fit and ready to take on their rivals.''

In the absence of 'Rawalpindi Express' Shoaib Akhtar, the spotlight in the Pakistani team will be on tall pacer Shabbir Ahmed.
