Malaysia win Emirates snooker

Malaysia continued with their run of successes and beat Pakistan 3-2 to lift the Emirates International Snooker championship in Dubai last night.

India, who defeated the United Arab Emirates 3-2 on Saturday, finished third.

The consistent Malaysians got off to a fine start when Ann Seng beat Saleh Mohammed 4-1.

Farhan Mirza restored parity for Pakistan with a hard-fought 4-3 victory over Lim Soon Tut. Malaysia again went into the lead when Patrick Ooi beat Pakistani skipper Naveen Perwani 4-2.

Sam Shong recovered from a 1-2 deficit to account for Khurran Agha 4-2 in a three-frame burst of clinical snooker.

In the last match, which became inconsequential, Atiq Bux beat Ooi Chin Kay 4-2.

The victorious Malaysians take home a magnificent trophy and a cheque for 3,000 U.S. Dollars and a further 500 dollars for the high break of 109 by Sam Chong.

Pakistan, which finished second, won the runners-up trophy and a cheque for 2000 dollars.
