Bhupathi bags Giants awardTennis ace Mahesh Bhupati was conferred the prestigious Giants award for 1999 at a glittering ceremony in Bombay on Friday. The world doubles champion was selected for the award for his outstanding contribution to the field of sports, especially tennis. Field Marshal Sam Manekshaw and world chairman of Giants International Nana Chudasama presented the award. Bhupathi and his partner Leander Paes are the world No. 1 doubles pair. Together they won the French Open and Wimbledon titles and finished runners-up in the Australian Open and U.S. Open. Earlier this month, Bhupathi, partnering Japan's Ai Sugiyama, won the mixed doubles title at the U.S. Open. In 1997, Bhupathi had paired Rika Hiraki to the mixed doubles title at the French Open.
