Arnold, De Silva steady Sri Lanka

Opener Russell Arnold and Aravinda De Silva steadied Sri Lanka to a respectable total on the first day of the second Test against Australia at Galle today.

After losing skipper Sanath Jayasuriya to the first ball of the match, Sri Lanka gradually found their way to finish the day at 254 for the loss of six wickets.

Stubborn batting by veteran Aravinda De Silva (64) and Russell Arnold (50) took the home team to a healthy position.

For Australia, Shane Warne was the most successful bowler. He claimed three wickets for 29 runs.
